If it was up to Karl-Anthony Towns, the Minnesota Timberwolves would find a way to bring in D'Angelo Russell this summer. The two-time All-Star has made no secret of his interest in playing with Russell since even before their NBA careers began, and as reports of Minnesota's interest in acquiring the Brooklyn Nets guard began swirling in recent weeks, Towns has gone out of his way to implicitly voice his support for that possibility through many posts on social media.

The Timberwolves' franchise player isn't the only one in his family drawing attention to rumors of mutual interest between Russell and Minnesota, either. At Russell's basketball camp in Metuchen, NJ over the weekend, Karl-Anthony Towns Sr. made sure to put in a word with the 2019 All-Star, according to The Athletic's Michael Scotto.

Russell enjoyed the best season of his four-year career in 2018-19, his second with the Nets after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers in advance of the 2017 NBA Draft. He notched career-highs across the board of 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game this season while shooting 43.4 percent overall and 36.9 percent from beyond the arc on a high volume of attempts, making his first All-Star game in the process.

The 23-year-old's status with Brooklyn is uncertain as the team is targeting superstar free agents like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, both of whom have been rumored to have legitimate interest in signing with the Nets. While Minnesota is known to be coveting Russell, it's unclear how the team would go about acquiring him given its limited means of cap flexibility and high-level trade assets.
