Former Minnesota Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett is apparently hoping to dissuade Alex Rodriguez from moving the franchise to Seattle.

Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press reported Garnett is expected to be “heavily involved” in the basketball operations side of things if Rodriguez and fellow investor Marc Lore do indeed take over in 2023. However, Walters reported Garnett wants the Timberwolves to remain in Minnesota, while Rodriguez could be weighing a move to Seattle:

“There’s buzz now that Kevin Garnett, who is said to be worth more than $200 million, will be heavily involved in the Timberwolves basketball department if he joins franchise investors Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore if/when they gain full control in 2023,” Walters wrote, via Pro Basketball Talk. “The word is Garnett, the ex-Timberwolf, wants the franchise to remain in Minnesota but Rodriguez wants to move it to Seattle, where he played for seven seasons.”

Of course, A-Rod and Lore have to assume ownership first.

Timberwolves governor Glen Taylor reached an agreement to sell the team to the two investors, but the sale has hit a bit of a snag. Minority owner Meyer Orbach filed a lawsuit against Taylor, one that revealed there was no language in the pending sale stating Lore and Rodriguez cannot move the Timberwolves franchise elsewhere.

That latest bit would seem to inform Rodriguez's purported desire to move the team to Seattle, which has been yearning for an NBA franchise since the SuperSonics departed for Oklahoma City. Rodriguez also spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners.

Still, the “Big Ticket” might be looking to do everything within his power to help the Timberwolves stay in Minnesota.
