Thursday night was a bit of a homecoming for Minnesota Timberwolves veteran Luol Deng, as he took on his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Deng injected a dose of energy from the Wolves bench, as he helped his squad to a 120-105 victory against the Lakers.

Following the contest, Deng explained how this was by now means a revenge game for him.

“I tried not to make this me against them,” Deng said, via ESPN. “This was really the Timberwolves coming in here and needing a win. I try to clear my mind from all that. What happened, happened. I'm blessed in so many other ways. I just wanted just to focus on winning the game.”

Back in the summer of 2016, the Lakers inexplicably signed Deng to a four-year, $72 million deal, which remains to be one of the worst contracts of recent time. The former seventh overall pick failed to live to his massive deal, and after two horrid season with the team, the Lakers decided to cut their losses.

In September of last year, the Lakers finally bought out Deng's contract, which allowed him to sign with the Wolves as a free agent shortly after.

As he explained, though, he holds no ill will against his former team whatsoever. He has decided to let bygones be bygones and is doing his best to revive his career. The former All-Star is now merely a shadow of his former self, but with the recent slew of injuries in the Minnesota squad, he might just have the opportunity to prove that he still has what it takes.
