On Friday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves were down 16 points with 7:31 left in the game against the Houston Rockets. The Wolves finished the game on a 22-0 run coming all the way back to win the game. The 22 points were the most consecutive points scored in franchise history.
On Saturday night the Rockets jumped out to a big lead once again, leading by 26 at halftime. This time they kept their foot on the gas, going on to win the game 129-107. The loss had one Wolves guard frustrated afterwards.
“I feel embarrassed,” said Malik Beasley, who returned to the court after a 12-game suspension. “No offense to the Rockets, but they had gone on a 20-game losing streak before this. To be the team where they’re joking around and beating us by 30, we gotta hold each other accountable. That can’t be happening like that. No offense to Malik Beasley, but even after the Rockets had lost a mind boggling 20 games in a row, they still had a better record than Minnesota. It's understandable that losing to a team not to long removed from that kind of streak by 22 points is embarrassing, but it'd be foolish to act as though the Timberwolves are a competent bunch themselves. Yes Houston is awful, nobody is denying that. But their 13-32 record is better than the Wolves 11-35 mark.
Maybe it's a sign of how discombobulated Minnesota is that on back-to-back nights on their home floor the Rockets were blowing them out each time. And that it took a miracle comeback just to split the short two-game clash.
With Beasley back in the fold, he adds another great shooting threat to go alongside stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. His return should help the Wolves avoid games like this going forward.
