The Minnesota Timberwolves are definitely getting into the “Game of Thrones” craze. With the return of the acclaimed HBO fantasy series just days away, the Wolves have decided to change their name to the Minnesota Dirweolves.

The Direwolf is the animal that appears on the family sigil of the Starks — the show's protagonist family. We will need to give a lot of credit to Minnesota's marketing team for this bit of genius, which will undoubtedly be a pretty solid source of merchandise income.

There hasn't been too much to get excited about this year for the Wolves, and this is probably going to be one of the highest points of their season. While the merch does look extremely fresh, this fact speaks volumes on how it has been another forgettable year for Minnesota.

It's going to be an extremely busy (and exciting) summer for the Timberwolves front office, though, with a number of guys entering free agency in the offseason.

Veteran point guard Jeff Teague will have a player option on his deal for next season which means that he could opt to walk away from the team in the summer. Taj Gibson, Tyus Jones, Derrick Rose, and Jerryd Bayless are some of the names that will become unrestricted free agents, so the team will be doing a lot of negotiating in the offseason.

Notably, Minnesota are expected to get a pick outside of the top 10 in the upcoming draft, but with such a stacked class, the team could also scoop up a promising talent that could have a major impact on their squad moving forward.
