Like many other teams around the NBA landscape, the Minnesota Timberwolves are exploring their options in free agency. One target the team is reportedly keeping an eye on is Detroit Pistons point guard Ish Smith.

Smith, now 30 years of age, signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Pistons in 2016. This summer, however, the former Wake Forest standout will be an unrestricted free agent.

The Timberwolves are likely taking a look at Smith due to the fact that Tyus Jones and Derrick Rose are up for free agency. Jones is heading for restricted free agency, while Rose will be unrestricted.

Smith would be a solid addition to just about any backcourt rotation. The Charlotte native made 56 appearances with the Pistons during their 2018-19 regular season campaign, racking up averages of 8.9 points on 41.9 percent shooting from the field (32.6 percent from beyond the arc), 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per outing.

Whether or not the Timberwolves will be able to land Smith in free agency remains to be seen, but it sounds like there is a certain level of interest in the idea.
