Minnesota Timberwolves president Gersson Rosas traded Andrew Wiggins to the Golden State Warriors to acquire D'Angelo Russell because Minnesota had a glaring need at point guard.

With that said, one could argue both teams won the trade.

The Timberwolves finally got their All-Star point guard next to big man Karl-Anthony Towns, while the Warriors got a former No. 1 overall pick who can score the ball at will and run up and down the floor with the best of them:

“You have to pay a premium for good players,” Rosas said, via the Washington Post. “Not only did we need a point guard in our system, we needed a guy who fit our timeline and a guy who has already established himself as a player in this league. In those pursuits, you have to be comfortable hearing ‘no,’ and you have to be comfortable being patient.”

Andrew Wiggins is averaging 19.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists in five games with the Warriors, while D'Angelo Russell is putting up 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 9.7 assists in three games with the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves are going to have planned rest days for Russell moving forward. Minnesota might as well rest Russell and tank the rest of the season, especially with KAT out for a while after fracturing his wrist.
