The Minnesota Timberwolves want to upgrade their point guard position via trade, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Timberwolves veteran point guard Jeff Teague is making $19 million this season and becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Minnesota is reportedly open to moving Teague and small forward Robert Covington, per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report:

The Minnesota Timberwolves (10-15) are believed to be shopping both Jeff Teague and Robert Covington, the former GM said. “They need to figure out their point guard situation.”

The Timberwolves are 10-15 on the season and have lost seven games in a row. Minnesota remains interested in acquiring All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors despite what transpired this past summer, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Russell had an agreement with the Warriors before getting on a helicopter with the Timberwolves contingent this past offseason. That made for “an awkward goodbye on the tarmac,” one source told Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

In 21 games this season for the Timberwolves, Teague is averaging 14.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from beyond the arc and 87.4 percent from the free-throw line. He has three double-doubles.

The Timberwolves need another dynamic scorer next to Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. It remains to be seen, though, if management can get a deal done.
