The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the midst of a full-blown scandal right now after the organization removed Gersson Rosas from his position as the team's president for basketball operations. Despite the drama, however, it looks like the Wolves are still maintaining their interest in Sixers want-away star Ben Simmons.

Timberwolves team insider Darren Wolfson of SKOR North recently reported that Sachin Gupta, the team's newly-appointed head of basketball operations, will do everything in his power to bring Simmons to Minnesota (h/t Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report):

“He may want Ben Simmons more than Gersson Rosas wanted Ben Simmons,” Wolfson said (starts at the 29:12 mark). “… I'm convinced Gupta wants Ben Simmons. He is going to try. He's going to work his ass off to try to acquire Ben Simmons.”

It's no secret that the Timberwolves have shown a lot of interest in Simmons over the past couple of months. Apparently, their level of interest hasn't changed in spite of the major changes the team undertook in their front office. If anything, it looks like Gupta will be even more aggressive in their pursuit of the All-Star point guard.

For his part, Simmons is standing pat in his decision to want to leave Philadelphia. He reportedly didn't even give his teammates a chance to try and convince him otherwise. At this point, it looks like that ship has sailed.
