Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose told local reporters on Friday he's dealing with a ligament injury in his right ankle.

Derrick Rose will not play on Friday against the Utah Jazz in the Salt Lake City. He played the first half of Thursday's game versus the Los Angeles Lakers, but sat out the second half. The Timberwolves were still able to defeat the Lakers, 120-105, at Staples Center.

Minnesota head coach Ryan Saunders told the media after the game that Derrick Rose was really sore.

Derrick Rose initially suffered the right ankle injury on Dec. 21 against the San Antonio Spurs. He missed one game before coming back against the Chicago Bulls and scoring 24 points.

The former MVP then re-aggregated the ankle on Dec. 28 versus the Atlanta Hawks and missed six straight games. Rose returned to the lineup on Jan. 11 and has been playing really well. However, Derrick Rose may need to sit out for an extended period of time so he can be 100 percent, because he keeps suffering setbacks by coming back too soon.

The Chicago native is averaging 18.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season for the Timberwolves while shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Minnesota is 24-24 on the season, good for 10th place in the Western Conference. Derrick Rose is the second-leading scorer on the Timberwolves, trailing only All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.
