Despite picking up the victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio isn't resting on his laurels and gave a blunt evaluation of his season performance thus far.

Per John Krawczynski of The Athletic, Rubio knows he hasn't played up to the level expected of him. But he did acknowledge his teammates for keeping him motivated.

“My game hasn't been what I expect. I'm the first one to be judgmental. But it's a process. This group really helped me when things weren't going my way to keep my spirit up.”

In their 116-112 victory over the Raptors, Rubio scored 16 points and dished out five assists. This snapped the Wolves' four-game losing streak, bringing their record to 8-20.

The 2020-21 season marked Rubio's return to the Wolves, the team where he spent his first six years in the NBA. He's expected to bring that good old leadership and guidance to the relatively young core of the Wolves. But so far, things haven't panned out as expected.

Injuries on D'Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns have hindered the development of the team as a whole. Rubio, too, is not looking like his old self. While he's not known for his scoring, his average of 6.0 points per game (a career-low) definitely won't cut it.

But the good thing for Rubio and the Timberwolves is that their team performance against the Raptors may be a sign of good things to come. A total of six players scored in double-digits that game, led by Towns and Malik Beasley who dropped 20 points apiece. Rookie Anthony Edwards chipped in 18 points.
