The Minnesota Timberwolves managed to get a solid win over the Golden State Warriors thanks to some fantastic team basketball. Players like Robert Covington are what helped the Timberwolves to at least be competing for the lower seeds in the ever-competitive Western Conference.

Moreover, the key three-and-D player for the Timberwolves will be one of the first to say that the team's role players were instrumental in helping them compete in the rough terrain of the West.

Covington talked to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic and discussed the impact the team's role players have made to the team.

His recognition of the impact the team's G League players have on the team is completely understandable. He himself was undrafted in 2013 and had to claw his way into becoming the respectable role man that he is for the Timberwolves. He recognized the efforts the role players put on the court and its impact on their performance overall as a team.

Among the four players mentioned in Krawczynski's tweet, Keita Bates-Diop has had the most game time and impact on the roster. Through 21 games, he's notched a respectable stat line of 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.5 assists a game. Martin has also been impactful with his 5.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.5 assists. Nowell also made do with what minutes he got with his 5.2  points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. Reid has also been a revelation with his 6.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.5 assists.

It's important for the Timberwolves that their G League players are performing as they don't have the best market in the league. It would take a lot to attract a superstar free agent to the Twin Cities, and they need to build through the draft in order to remain competitive. Thankfully, Andrew Wiggins has stepped up to complement Karl-Anthony Towns, but it would take more than these two to thrive in the league.

These role players need to perform more consistently for the Timberwolves to win, and Covington hopes that it would stay that way.
