Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Robert Covington posted a heartfelt farewell to The City of Brotherly Love after being traded alongside teammates Dario Saric and Jarryd Bayless as the Philadelphia Sixers made a blockbuster move to acquire Jimmy Butler on Saturday.

“Just want to thank the city of Philadelphia and the 76ers organization for allowing me to grow as a player here over the past 4 years. Thru the ups and downs I learned a lot here and y’all always had our back. It’s been a incredible journey and I definitely wouldn’t change it for the world. I built friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime. Now a new journey awaits and I’m thankful for this opportunity. Until next time Philly!!!”

Covington is fresh off signing a four-year, $62 million extension with the team last November and will now get a fresh start next to Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns in The Twin Cities.

His defense was the primary asset that enticed the Timberwolves' front office to make this trade after trying to swing a deal for Miami Heat 3-and-D specialist Josh Richardson in the past.

Robert Covington was undrafted out of Tennessee State and made his mark with the Sixers after a fruitless seven-game stint with the Houston Rockets, becoming Philly's defensive anchor at the wing and one of the better 3-point threats on the team. Those two skills will fit right in to address Minnesota's dire needs, as the Timberwolves hunt for another playoff appearance after missing the cut the past 13 seasons before a quick 4-1 out in 2017-18.
