Minnesota Timberwolves starting power forward Taj Gibson didn't play Saturday night against the Phoenix Suns due to a death in his family, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Gibson, 33-years-old, has started 28 games for the Timberwolves this season. The 10-year veteran out of USC is averaging 10.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game and shooting 52.2 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from the 3-point line and 68.6 percent from the free-throw line.

This is definitely sad news to hear for Gibson and his family. Hopefully the big man is in a good place mentally to return to the Timberwolves on Monday.

Minnesota lost to the lowly Suns on Saturday, their fourth loss in a row, and the honeymoon phase after the Jimmy Butler trade is over. The Timberwolves are 13-16, 14th place in the Western Conference. The team has yet to win a game on the road against a Western Conference team this year.

Even if Gibson had played on Saturday, Minnesota probably still would have lost because they played lackadaisical all night and came out with no energy.

The Timberwolves host the Sacramento Kings on Monday. Minnesota is 0-2 against the Kings this season.
