Following his breakout performance on Sunday for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Tyus Jones has gained the respect of his coaches and teammates, after starting for the first time in his career.

Filling in for the injured Jeff Teague, the 21-year-old Duke product played arguably his best game as a pro with nine points, seven assists, seven steals, and two blocks, without committing a single turnover in 39 minutes of action against the Phoenix Suns.

His performance drew praise from his Karl-Anthony Towns, Jimmy Butler, and Andrew Wiggins, all of whom had nothing but good words to say about Jones, via John Meyer of SB Nation.

“He was amazing. I thought he was absolutely sensational,” Towns said.

“I think sometimes the box score lies about how effective Tyus was. He was amazing today. He did everything we needed, plus more. It seems a lot of times when Tyus is on the court, a lot of great things happen.”

Butler focused on the defense Tyus Jones showed throughout the match, and gave him credit for the seven steals he had, despite going up against different players from the Suns.

“Tyus got seven steals. He was out there guarding somebody … I like that,” said Butler.  “Out there gambling—guess he took a couple pages outta my book. But Tyus was phenomenal man. I like the way he’s playing right now.

Wiggins on the other hand. had high praise for the 6-foot point guard's solid play on both ends of the floor, as well as his conditioning this season.

“He played amazing on both ends of the floor,” said Wiggins. “This year he’s a lot stronger and in great shape.”

It's still unclear when Jeff Teague will return to action, but if Jones will be able to continue his solid play in their coming games, not only will he give their starting point guard more time to recover, but he could also be given more playing time in the future. Should that happen, Jones will earn himself valuable lessons from the extended court action, which will make him an even better player.
