Things got a little awkward when Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas was asked if All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns was in the team's in-market bubble.

Rosas responded by saying the in-market bubble workouts are “voluntary” and came together quickly in recent weeks.

However, the Timberwolves' boss didn't answer directly if Towns is there.

A rumor surfaced earlier this week that Karl-Anthony Towns is unhappy with the Timberwolves and will leave the organization soon. The former No. 1 overall pick signed a five-year, $158.25 million Designated Veteran extension with Minnesota before the start of the 2018-19 season.

Towns, one of the best players in the NBA, has only been to the playoffs once. The Timberwolves made KAT happy by acquiring his close friend, D'Angelo Russell, from the Golden State Warriors at the 2020 trade deadline. Minnesota has the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft, giving the franchise an opportunity to add more young talent next to Towns and Russell.

This is certainly a situation to monitor, though. Towns is the leader of the team, so it's a little strange that he's not in the in-market bubble and the Timberwolves won't reveal whether he'll join the other players or not.

Towns was involuntarily a face of the COVID-19 crisis in the NBA world due to both parents contracting coronavirus and getting sick. Sadly, his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, passed away, a tremendous loss for the talented big man.

Towns appeared in 35 games for the Timberwolves before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19. He averaged 26.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest while shooting 50.8 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from beyond the arc and 79.6 percent from the free throw line.
