Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Andrew Wiggins is primed to sign a five-year, $148 million extension with the team, reportedly prior to the start of training camp on Saturday. The 22-year-old had been working to get a deal done the entire offseason, cutting ties with his former agent Bill Duffy despite him having a max extension on the table from the team.

President and head coach Tom Thibodeau has done his part in trying to keep him in the Twin Cities, but does not expect any changes from him after receiving this massively-lucrative offer.

“I don’t think it will change him,” said Thibodeau on Friday, according to John Meyer of Canis Hoopus. “I know what’s he done this summer. I think he wants to be great.”

Wiggins has made major strides since earning the Rookie of the Year award in 2014, improving his scoring average every season and developing into a more polished, well-rounded player.

The 6-foot-8 Canadian will likely slide up to the shooting guard position, as his counterpart Jimmy Butler takes on the rebounding and defending at small forward, boasting a body more suited for the position.

Wiggins will play a prominent role in the team's scoring load along with Butler and cornerstone center Karl-Anthony Towns, hoping to make the playoffs for the first time in 14 years.
