The rift between the Minnesota Timberwolves and franchise center Karl-Anthony Towns has become a big enigma over the course of the postseason, making it yet another storyline that could have repercussions during the offseason.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the tension between KAT and the Wolves could be about his relationship with head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau, but recently could have made things worse with a blindside move within the organization.

“Let’s just put it this way: I didn’t make this up,” said Windhorst. “People in the league have been saying, ‘You know, maybe we should call and take a look and see what’s going on with Karl Towns.' Now, he and Tom Thibodeau did not have the greatest season together. I think that’s fair to say.”

“They recently fired Vince Legarza, who’s his strength-and-conditioning coach or he’s actually his workout coach with the Wolves and, according to The Athletic, didn’t tell him about it. He found out when everybody else did.”

This is a similar move to the New York Knicks firing Carmelo Anthony's trainer Chris Brickley upon the start of the Phil Jackson regime, starting on sour grapes as the team took over these decisions without a feel-out process.

The Timberwolves are rumored to be aggressive this offseason, and that could result in either Karl-Anthony Towns or teammate Andrew Wiggins leaving town, as Thibodeau has pretty much decided to build around veteran Jimmy Butler, rather than his young cogs.
