Sacramento Kings point guard George Hill had his second strong game in a row as he had 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc in the Kings’ 119-96 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Hill easily could’ve been playing with the Timberwolves had things gone differently this offseason, though, as the Sacramento Bee’s Jason Jones revealed.

Pregame: Thibs said Minnesota considered George Hill as a free agent option. Said they liked his defense and shooting. Minnesota signed Jeff Teague.

The Timberwolves reportedly had Hill among their list of point guard targets in free agency after they parted ways with both Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn. The feeling was mutual, with the Timberwolves among Hill’s preferred destinations. Hill’s defense and shooting seemed like the ideal fit alongside Jimmy Butler, who primarily likes to play on-ball.

However, the Timberwolves decided to go with the younger and more durable Teague. Meanwhile, Hill’s potential options in free agency dwindled, which was why he was almost forced to sign with the Kings.

Teague has had a solid but unspectacular season with the Timberwolves, averaging 13.6 points and 7.1 assists while shooting a career-high 41 percent from beyond the arc. On the other side, Hill is averaging just 9.6 points in 25.8 minutes for the Kings and has not been shy in expressing his unhappiness about his current situation in Sacramento in recent days.
