The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off a relatively successful season, as Karl-Anthony Towns led the team to just its first playoff appearance since 2018. The goal now for the Timberwolves is to sustain that form and find their way to a deeper postseason run, and according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Minnesota has shown a level of interest in getting Towns help in the frontcourt. Among the big men the Timberwolves appear to have on their radar is Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks.

The Timberwolves have discussed deals around veteran centers, including Atlanta’s Clint Capela, sources said.

Capela is an intriguing name. For one, he only has a year left on his current contract after getting extended by the Hawks back in 2021. It's not hard to imagine what Capela could bring to the table for the Timberwolves and how he could make the load lighter for Towns without the latter sacrificing much of his usual usage. After all, Capela doesn't really demand the ball to make an impact. Plus, it's hypothetically unlikely that the Timberwolves would run a five-man unit on the floor that heavily features Towns and Capela together. Instead, Capela could shore up the depth of the T'wolves frontcourt that was mostly responsible for why the team ranked just 21st in the league in the 2021-22 NBA season in terms of rebounding rate.

The Timberwolves have other priorities in the offseason, but boosting their frontcourt with the right big could make them among the winners of the NBA offseason.
