Last Saturday, a lot of hearts were crushed in Los Angeles, when the Los Angeles Rams were booted out of the playoffs with a 26-13 loss at home at the hands of Matt Ryan and the defending NFC champions, Atlanta Falcons. Thousands of miles away from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, another person seemed to share the misery of Rams fans.

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Jimmy Butler let out an all-too-familiar four-letter howl of agony after realizing that the Rams lost, while watching the game in the locker room following a 116-98 win at home over the New Orleans Pelicans. The funny thing about it was that Butler’s reaction was overheard by teammate Karl-Anthony Towns, who was talking with a group of reporters on the other end of the room.

Towns played it cool, however. With a tinge of sarcasm, he updated Butler with something the latter obviously already knew.

Butler is not from Los Angeles. He is not even from California as he was born in Houston, played high school in Tomball, went to college at Marquette, and spent his first years in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls. So why was he so affected? Well, maybe he just lost a bet. It does not always feel good to be on the receiving end of a bad beat no matter how much money you bet. The Rams were five-point favorites in that game.

Since he currently calls the Twin City his home, Butler will have to cheer for the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints at home in an NFC Divisional round game at home.
