For the Tennessee Titans, a former Cleveland Browns failed project, and a one-time third-stringer for the Houston Texans is part of the answer at their quarterback position with Marcus Mariota’s status for Week 5 currently in limbo.  According to ESPN, Brandon Weeden and the Titans have agreed to a deal.

With starting quarterback Marcus Mariota hurt, the Tennessee Titans signed free agent quarterback Brandon Weeden on Tuesday.

Mariota hasn’t been ruled out (yet) for next Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, but the Titans could as well be preparing for a possible stint on the injury reserve list by Mariota, who suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4’s 57-14 road loss to the Houston Texans.

The Titans still have Matt Cassell, so Weeden, 33, is likely just signed to be a backup to the 35-year-old quarterback in case Cassell gets hurt.

Weeden was selected by the Browns in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and played two seasons with the team before playing for Dallas Cowboys from 2014 to 2015. He last served for the Houston Texans, who used him as a mere safety net should the two quarterbacks ahead of him in the depth chart got injured.

It’s one thing to be a bad quarterback, and it’s another to be a bad quarterback that had to hold the clipboard while a team oscillates Brock Osweiler and Tom Savage at the quarterback position, but somehow, the Titans thought that Weeden is the best signal-caller available in the market.

In 34 career NFL games, Weeden has thrown for 6,462 yards and 31 touchdowns against 30 interceptions.
