The Tennessee Titans have managed to come to terms on a deal for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Their next priority will be taking care of running back Derrick Henry's lucrative payday.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there has been little headway made in the negotiations with Henry:

“From what I understand, they haven’t really gotten off the ground too much as far as a potential deal for Henry.”

The report added that the Titans could opt to use their franchise tag on Henry is there is little progress made.

“The franchise tag is very much an option for Derrick Henry. It's not what anybody wants. It's also for a running back, more than $10 million.”

It is safe to say that the update is hardly an encouraging sign that a deal will be made this offseason. As a result, Tennessee may choose to buy themselves some extra time for negotiations by using the franchise tag for the 2020 NFL season.

Now that the new collective bargaining agreement has been voted, Henry is likely expecting to set the market with his new deal. This could very well be the reason why there has not been much headway being made up to this point. Regardless, the Titans' workhorse still has good reason to expect a big payday coming his way.

After a slow start to his career, Henry has now established himself as one of the NFL's elite workhorses. He served as the focal point of the resurgence on offense during the second half of the 2019 NFL season, and there is no question that their blueprint for success was built through him.
