After an impressive last season for the Tennessee Titans, the expectations were high for what Derrick Henry could accomplish as the teams lead back. Instead of having a big year, Henry has really struggled to rush for only 273 yards and six touchdowns and he is very disappointed with his performance.

“I remember before camp I stood in front of you guys and said I wanted to be an elite back, and I feel like I haven’t done that,” Henry said on Thursday, via Jim Wyatt of the team website. ”The big thing is being consistent, finishing runs, being physical, running hard. I stood in front of you guys and said those things, but I don’t feel like I have done those things.”

Derrick Henry has looked a step slow on the field and he hasn't seemed to be able to get into any grooves on the field. All the Titans running backs have struggled to run the ball, but free agent signing Dion Lewis has looked like the better back rushing for 277 yards on fewer carries.

The Titans offense has struggled this year and a big reason has been because of the running game and in the second half of the season, it needs to find a way to get going.

“I just have to run better honestly,” Henry said. “Just being truthful with myself . . . and [my play] hasn’t been very good. There’s a lot of things I have to get better at and I am working on these things in practice, but it has to show in the games.

“I can sit here and talk all day, but if it doesn’t show in the game, it doesn’t mean anything.”
