Following the decision to part ways with former Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray, the Tennessee Titans decided to take the dual approach in the backfield with the offseason addition of Dion Lewis alongside running back Derrick Henry. Since his arrival to the team, Lewis has spoken highly of what he believes he and Henry can bring to the table together next season.

According to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN, the 27-year-old once again raised the level of expectations for the newly formed tandem in Tennessee stating that the two could be the best pairing in the entire league.

“We both know we’re two good backs,” Lewis said. “We’re pushing each other every day. We feel like we can be two of the best running backs in the league. We feel like we can be the best duo in the league.”

This high amount of optimism spewing from Lewis is likely coming from the promise that Henry showed this past season posting a career-high 744 rushing yards and five touchdowns. This included notching three 100-yard rushing performance including a career-best 156 yards in the wildcard playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Lewis has shown to be a highly effective dual-threat running back with his ability to greatly impact the game as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. He is coming off a career-high 896 yards and six touchdowns along with hauling in 32 receptions for 214 receiving yards and three touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career.

The Titans have already expressed that both will be heavily involved in the offensive game plan as options 1A and 1B in the backfield that could see them form a potent running game. The table is set for the duo to live up to those expectations in the 2018 campaign.
