The Tennessee Titans have revamped their running game with some shifting around the personnel in the backfield that saw the departure of former Pro Bowler DeMarco Murray for Dion Lewis through free agency.

This has altered the game plan with the offense with their rushing attack under the new coaching staff. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, it will likely lead to Derrick Henry and Lewis splitting the duties as the primary options at the running back position.

Terry McCormick of titaninsider.com reports Henry could lead the Titans in rushing attempts and rushing yards, but Lewis could end up with more all-purpose yards. While Henry will start, the Titans likely have game-day packages for each back, and the two could line up in the backfield together at times.

That follows what offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur said this offseason in calling Henry and Lewis “1A and 1B.

Henry has the potential to develop into an effective all-around running back in the offense with the size and ability to be a dual-threat option. He is coming off a 2017 campaign where he experienced an uptick in production in the 2017 season as he posted a career-high 744 rushing yards with five touchdowns. Henry’s production had a notable increase after Murray went down with a leg injury late in the season.

Meanwhile, Lewis is coming off the most productive year of his career where he rushed for a career-high 896 yards and six touchdowns along with hauling in 32 catches for 214 receiving yards and three touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career. He has the ability to be a versatile option that could be featured in many different ways that could provide another element to the Titans offense.

There are many different ways that the Titans can go about their running game, which could become an anchor in the offensive game plan next season.
