At one point in time, it appeared as if Jeff Fisher and Vince Young had the potential to be one of the better head coach-quarterback tandems in the NFL. But that potential quickly fizzled out. Young was cut following the 2010 season. Fisher and the Titans ‘mutually agreed’ to part ways.

Young has since apologized for his part, but Fisher has not responded to Young’s apology. Why? Well—because he isn’t sure the apology actually came from Young.

“Yes, I got a letter from Vince,” Fisher said, via Greg Bishop of Sports Illustrated. “And I didn’t respond. My name was spelled wrong on the letter, the letter came from the University of Texas, and I had no way of knowing if it was (really) from him. It came from the athletic department. But my name was spelled incorrectly.

“I still have it. But I didn’t know if it was from him, so I felt no need to respond.”

Is he being a little petty? Maybe, but it isn’t like it would have been hard for Young or whoever sent the letter to check and see how Fisher’s name is spelled. If they can’t take the time to take care of a detail like that, how seriously should Fisher take the ‘apology?’

A case could easily be made that Young should know that his former head coach’s name was Jeff Fisher, not Fischer.

In the end, you could also ask why it matters. Fisher moved on to the St. Louis Rams in 2012 until he was fired in 2016. Young was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He started three games but didn’t play well enough for the Eagles to bring back in 2012.

Neither is currently in the NFL.
