Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about quarterback Ryan Tannehill's future given Tannehill will be a free agent in just a few weeks.

Vrabel was complimentary of Tannehill, but did not make a declarative statement on his behalf, according to Michael Giardi of NFL Network.

This is particularly interesting considering executives and scouts around the league believe the Titans could be players for longtime New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Of course, there are also reasons to wonder why the Titans would move on from Tannehill.

Tennessee traded for Tannehill to be their backup last offseason, only for the veteran to take over for the beleaguered Marcus Mariota in Week 6.

Tannehill subsequently led the Titans to a 7-3 finish, helping them clinch a playoff spot in Week 17 before leading them to an improbable pair of victories over the Patriots and top-seeded Baltimore Ravens.

The 31-year-old even did his best to get the Titans back into the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, completing 21-of-31 passes for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Of course, there is another element to this situation.

Brady and Vrabel were teammates during the Patriots dynasty in the early 2000s, and they have a familiar dynamic that could help explain Vrabel's potential desire to pursue his old friend. Christopher Mason of MassLive.com reported Vrabel is scheduled to meet with Brady's agent, Don Yee at the NFL scouting combine.

The Titans previously alluded to a desire to give Tannehill a long-term contract. But the situation appears to have changed over the course of the last few months.
