Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel said after the Titans lose on Sunday against the Denver Broncos the reason for the quarterback change was simple, the team needed to find a way to score.

After a Marcus Mariota interception in the third quarter that led to a Broncos touchdown, and put the Titans down 13 points, Vrabel decided to turn to Ryan Tannehill.

“Every decision we make we try and do in the best interest of the football team at every position,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel said via the Titans team website. “At that point and time, we’re just trying to move the football and score more points.”

Once Tannehill came in he 13-of-16 passes for 144 yards but he also held the ball a few times and that led to four sacks.

After the game, Tannehill said he knows how tough it is to get benched and he feels for Mariota, but the two have a good relationship so that makes the situation a little easier.

“These things are tough, no matter how you cut it,” Tannehill said. “I think the only thing that makes it somewhat tolerable is we do have a good relationship and we have a ton of respect for each other. I have a ton of respect for Marcus. It’s a tough situation all around.”

Mariota said that he doesn't know who will start the next game, but either way he is going to be a team first guy.

“I don’t feel great,” Mariota said. “Coach made the decision and he is going to make a decision that’s best for the team. I respect it and I just try and be there for Ryan.”
