With his current team out of Super Bowl contention, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has more time to focus on reaching his goal of becoming an NFL head coach. According to NFL reporter Jason La Canfora, Wilks is set for an interview with the Tennessee Titans, who now have an open slot for their head coaching position after parting ways with Mike Mularkey.

Steve Wilks has been busy of late exploring his career options, as the New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts both requested him for scheduled interviews as well.

It should also be noted that Wilks is also among those being considered by the Arizona Cardinals as their replacement for Bruce Arians, who has already declared his resignation from coaching in the NFL.

Wilks started his NFL career in 2006 when he was hired by the Chicago Bears to become the team’s defensive backs coach. He would serve that role until 2008 before jumping to the then San Diego Chargers in 2009. After two years with the Bolts, he left the Chargers for Carolina, where Wilks was promoted to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Under Wilks, the Panthers’ defense managed to rank 11th in scoring defense, seventh in total defense, and third in run defense in the 2017 regular season.

As of this writing, Wilks and Texas defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel are the only two men to get interview requests from the Titans, who are fresh off a crushing loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC divisional round.
