The Tennessee Titans will interview Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur for their newly vacated head coaching position, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Gary Klein.

LeFleur, 38, only came to Los Angeles along with head coach Sean McVay last season, although McVay called the plays. LaFleur has no prior experience calling plays in the NFL.

Nevertheless, LeFleur helped the Rams undergo an incredible one-year transformation as they led the league in scoring, averaging 29.9 points a game. The Rams won the NFC West and advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2004, but lost to the Falcons in the Wild Card Round.

Prior to his offensive coordinator role with the Rams, LaFleur spent the previous two years as a quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons under Kyle Shanahan. The Falcons led the NFL in scoring and played in the Super Bowl during the 2016 season. He also spent three years at the same position with the Washington Redskins, again under Shanahan.

A big part of LaFleur’s job in Tennessee, should he be hired, will be to help improve franchise quarterback Marcus Mariota and the Titans' passing attack as a whole. The Titans parted ways with head coach Mike Mularkey on Monday in large part due to the lack of development seen from Mariota in the 2017 season.

LaFleur notably helped with the development of a young Kirk Cousins during his time in Washington and was also a key factor in Rams quarterback Jared Goff’s massive improvement from his disastrous rookie year to this season.
