With the NFL offseason just around the corner, former Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson is still on the market following his release during the 2017 season. As a result, a homecoming of sorts could be in the works for Johnson.

There has been little talk of interest surrounding the veteran back. However, he recently hinted at a potential return to the Tennessee Titans with a post on Twitter:

“I don’t think back to titans would be a bad idea,” Johnson tweeted, followed by: “Lol we will see if we can make it a reunion.”

It goes without saying that the best years of Johnson's career came with the Titans. The speedster made an immediate impact in Tennessee after being taken with the 24th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Johnson made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. His best year came in 2009 when he broke the NFL's record for most yards from scrimmage in a single season (2,509).

Needless to say, his production has declined severely since. Johnson had one more shot to prove himself as the workhorse back in Arizona following the season-ending injury to running back David Johnson last season. Unfortunately, he managed to rush for just 114 yards on 45 carries in four games during the 2017 campaign before being replaced by Adrian Peterson.

That said, a return to his former stomping grounds would certainly be a treat for Titans fans, especially with the release of running back DeMarco Murray. However, it is clear that Tennessee is looking to go in a much more youthful direction moving forward.
