The Tennessee Titans executed the blockbuster trade of AJ Brown during the NFL Draft, offloading the star receiver to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a pair of draft picks, including the No. 18 overall pick. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill got brutally honest on the Titans' decision to make the trade. Via Mike Giardi, Tannehill admitted that the trade was a “shock” to him, and that it was difficult to come to terms with it on both a professional and personal level.

“I thought [the Titans] were going to get it done, just in my heart,” said Tannehill. “I thought we were going to have AJ here for a long time. Didn't work out.”

Tannehill iterated that he and Brown are good friends, so he's certainly still processing the team's decision to move on from the star wideout. Brown was in line for a massive payday, and reports indicate the Titans were unwilling to meet his asking price in contract talks. Brown was reportedly seeking $80 million in guaranteed money from Tennessee. After he was traded to the Eagles, he signed a four-year, $100 million deal with $57 million guaranteed.

Brown and Tannehill have developed a strong rapport both on and off the field since the Titans drafted Brown in the second round in 2019. Across three seasons with the Titans, Brown racked up 185 receptions, 2,995 yards, and 24 touchdown catches, serving as Tannehill's top target on offense.

After trading Brown to the Eagles, the Titans drafted Arkansas standout Treylon Burks with the No. 18 pick in the draft, hoping he can emerge as a viable replacement for Brown in the long term.
