For the second week in a row, Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker will not play, as he is nursing an ankle injury. The standout tight end sat out practices during the week, as he has battled the ankle ailment for the good part of the last month. The last time he played — against the Los Angeles Chargers — he registered just five snaps.

In seven games of 2019 play, Walker, 35, has 21 receptions (31 targets) for 215 yards and two touchdowns. His injured ankle is the same one that ended his 2018 prematurely.

“I am just trying to make sure I get (my ankle) back to normal,” Walker said in October, via the team's official website. “It’s related to the dislocation I had in my ankle. I just banged it up pretty much. Surprisingly I went pretty far without injuring it, so that’s a good sign.”

“I knew it was going to come at one point where it was going to be really sore, or I would take some hits on it. … I knew I was going to get some type of bruise or soreness in my ankle, so I kind of put that in the back of my mind that it could occur.”

In his place, Jonnu Smith will get the start. In eight games (seven starts), he has 15 receptions (18 targets) for 239 yards and one touchdown. In 2018, he filled in for Walker but didn't reap the benefits as he has in 2019. Last year, the 24-year-old reeled in 20 receptions (30 targets) for 258 yards and three touchdowns.
