The Tennessee Titans have undergone some new changes this offseason. However, their commitment to the run game has yet to waver with the addition of running back Dion Lewis, joining a backfield headed by running back Derrick Henry.

According to Jason Wolf of the Tennessean, offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur says both players will be splitting time with the first time this offseason:

“Until you get the pads on and really get going through preseason, I look at them both as 1A and 1B,” LaFleur said. “I feel confident in both of those guys. They both bring a little bit different qualities to what they do. But I think we’ve got two really good backs that we’re excited about.”

Needless to say, there is plenty of reason for LaFleur to be optimistic. The Titans have relied on a 1-2 punch in the run game over the last several years. Only then, it was headlined by former running back DeMarco Murray while Henry filled a complementary role. Now that the team has parted ways with Murray, the former Alabama product has been bumped up.

Henry's workload fluctuated throughout the season. Fortunately, he did more than enough to prove he was capable of handling a larger role in the offense. That said, the Titans are still hoping to keep their dynamic theme in the backfield going with the addition of Lewis this offseason.

The former New England Patriot was able to rise to the top of the team's running back committee and finish with his best season yet. His prowess out of the backfield as a receiver will likely give him a role in passing situations, whereas Henry will likely see the field more on early downs.
