The Tennessee Titans are already calling up veteran running back Adrian Peterson to the active roster from the practice squad, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

The Titans immediately added Peterson in the wake of the news that star Derrick Henry will miss extended time because of a foot injury. While there's hope Henry will return at some point this season, that's not a guarantee.

Tennessee was always planning on bringing Peterson up from the practice squad, but he has apparently impressed them enough to do it just days after his initial signing.

Peterson played for the Detroit Lions last season. While he's nowhere near his prime days, the Titans are hoping he can give them a little extra juice in the backfield in Henry's absence. It won't be possible to fully replace Henry's ridiculous production, but perhaps Peterson still has a bit left in the tank to help out Tennessee.

The Titans are 6-2 on the season and hold a firm grasp on the AFC South lead, with the Indianapolis Colts in second place at 4-5 after their big win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. Tennessee should be able to hold down the fort and win the division without Henry, and then perhaps he'll be back for the playoffs.
