The Tennessee Titans were unable to get a winning streak going after falling short against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. Unfortunately, it appears they were dealt another critical blow after cornerback Malcolm Butler was forced to exit the game.

Butler had reportedly broken his wrist during the 30-20 loss. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he has now been placed on injured reserve:

The Titans placed CB Malcolm Butler on injured reserve and re-signed CB Tye Smith.

The injury occurred right before halftime while attempting to swat down a pass. As a result, Tennessee has brought back cornerback Tye Smith after waiving him prior to Week 9 to make room for defensive back Joshua Kalu.

Butler's injury undoubtedly deals a crushing blow to the Titans' secondary. He had been in the midst of a solid 2019 campaign after registering 30 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. His absence will leave a rather notable void on the outside for the rest of the regular season.

It appears cornerback LeShaun Sims will be tasked with serving as a viable replacement for Butler after filling in against the Panthers. The veteran has made the most of his limited opportunities with two interceptions this season and is slated to see an increase in playing time. Aside from cornerbacks Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson, Chris Milton and Kalu will also be looking to help fill the void left by Butler.

The Titans' secondary will not have much time to recover as they get set to host the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10.
