The Tennessee Titans seemingly took a step back in the 2017 NFL season despite advancing to the AFC Divisional Game due to the lackluster play of quarterback Marcus Mariota. As a result, the Titans are all in on re-tooling the offense to Mariota's skill set.

Fortunately, new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur is the right man for the job. According to Jim Wyatt of the team's website, LaFleur plans to take a detailed approach to assisting Mariota with his resurgence:

“You can see the talent he possesses,” LaFleur said. “There’s really three prerequisites to playing the position. No. 1, you have to be a natural thrower. You better be fearless in the pocket, be able to stand in there. And then the last one is those intangibles. I think he possesses all of those. … We’re going to be extremely detailed with his fundamentals and his footwork, because I think that leads to more consistent quarterback play.”

LaFleur has had some experience with helping talented, struggling signal callers get back on their feet after a stellar season with the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Jared Goff endured a nightmare year in 2016 before LaFleur and head coach Sean McVay were able to lead one of the biggest offensive turnarounds in league history.

The Titans are hoping he can work that same quarterback mojo with Mariota after coming off the worst passing season of his career. There is no doubt the former Heisman Trophy winner possesses a dynamic skill set. Fortunately, Mariota now has some stability above him on offense in the form of LaFleur.
