The Tennessee Titans made the huge decision to trade AJ Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 NFL Draft, receiving the No. 18 and No. 101 overall picks in exchange for the star wideout. The Titans' decision to trade Brown was somewhat of a surprise, though it's been well documented that he was in line for a huge new contract. Well, ESPN's Diana Russini, Brown's absurd contract demands in negotiations with the Titans could have played a role in his departure.

Russini indicates that Brown was actually the one who requested a trade after the Titans informed him they wouldn't be able to match his lofty demand for $80 million in guaranteed money. Brown's new deal with the Eagles will see him earn $100 million, including $57 million in guarantees, over the next four years.

“Brown wasn’t at any of the voluntary offseason workouts, and I was told he cut off communications with his position coach and the rest of the coaching staff. After multiple conversations with sources close to Brown and the Titans, Brown wanted guaranteed money close to $80 million. By the way, I was told this was after he requested a trade from the Titans,” said Russini.

Considering the lofty asking price Brown was seeking in a new contract with the Titans, it stands to reason that the team opted to trade him away while his value was still sky-high. The report that he was the one who ultimately requested the trade is certainly a surprise, but considering the two sides appeared to be at a standstill in terms of contract negotiations, a trade may have been the best outcome.

Brown's new deal with the Eagles will see him pocket considerably less than the $80 million in guaranteed money he demanded from the Titans, but he's still due to make an average of $25 million per season, something it seems he wasn't going to get in Tennessee.
