Earlier this week, the Tennessee Titans promoted tight ends coach Arthur Smith to offensive coordinator, and Titans tight end Delanie Walker is thrilled with the team's decision.

“I would say he’s a great hire,” Walker said, according to Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official team website. “The guy has worked on defense, offense, and he's been in every room. He knows the game, he studies his butt off and I know he is going to be a great OC. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure I can provide for him and make sure he is successful.”

Smith had been Tennessee's tight ends coach since 2015. Walker went on to have the best years of his career under Smith's direction, making three straight Pro Bowls from 2015 through 2017 before missing all but one game in 2018 with ankle issues.

“The dude knows what he is doing. He understands football,” added Walker. “When he first took over for Mike Mularkey, the way he taught us the plays and the way he gave us the ideas on the concepts of what the coaches wanted, it was probably one of the best ways I ever had a coach teach up the plays, and I think everyone in that room could say the same thing about his structure.”

While Smith had been tight ends coach for the last four seasons, he has actually been a member of the Titans' coaching staff ever since 2011, serving as an assistant for several years.

The Titans went 9-7 this season, just missing the playoffs after losing a winner-take-all game to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17.
