After becoming the oldest player in league history to claim NFL MVP honors last season, New England quarterback Tom Brady has emerged as an early favorite to duplicate the feat in the upcoming campaign. Brady sits as the +600 favorite on the 2018 NFL MVP odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The 40-year-old pivot was named NFL MVP for the third time in his career after leading the league in passing yards last season, and followed up by guiding the Patriots to their third Super Bowl appearance in four years. Brady returns to a New England squad that is also perched as early +500 chalk on the Super Bowl 53 odds.

Brady's 2017 NFL MVP win continues a trend that has seen quarterbacks garner the honors in 10 of the past 11 seasons. And if the NFL MVP opening odds are any indicator that trend will likely continue in 2018, with 20 of the top 21 players listed coming from under center.

Green Bay Packers pivot Aaron Rodgers was limited to just seven appearances by injury last season, but closely trails Brady as a +700 wager to earn a third career NFL MVP award in 2018. Rodgers led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2016; however the Packers have dipped to +1400 on the Super Bowl 53 odds after missing the playoffs last season for the first time in nine years.

Bettors are also paying close attention to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who sits alongside Drew Brees at +1100 on the NFL MVP odds. Wentz led the Eagles to a 10-2 start and was set as a clear favorite on the 2017 NFL MVP betting lines before a knee injury ended his campaign in Week 14 and cleared the way for Brady to win the award.

Brees recently signed a two-year, $50 million contract with New Orleans after racking up 4,334 passing yards and leading all quarterbacks with a 72.0 completion percentage last season, but was unable to avert the Saints' fourth straight early playoff exit since their first and only Super Bowl victory eight years ago.

Seattle's Russell Wilson is pegged at +1200 on the odds to win NFL MVP in 2018, ahead of Los Angeles Chargers passer Philip Rivers at +1400. Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger joins Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams and new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins at +1600 on those betting futures.

Meanwhile, Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson sports the best NFL MVP odds of any non-quarterback at +3300.
