Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez was forced to wear a Tom Brady jersey ahead of Monday's tilt with the Tampa Bay Rays, but still showed allegiance to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brady responded in kind.

Perez rocked Brady's Buccaneers threads during batting practice as part of a bet he made with Rays utility man and former Royals teammate Brett Phillips. However, he made sure to give a little finger wag and a “Patrick Mahomes is the best” for the cameras.

Brady offered a simple retort, saying “I think actions speak louder than words.”

Mahomes issued a response of his own, suggesting the conversation about who the “best” quarterback really is might not be determined for years to come.

The Phillips-Perez bet stemmed from the Super Bowl showdown between Brady's Bucs and Mahomes' Chiefs this past February.

Tampa Bay got the better of Kansas City, with Perez ultimately making good on his promise. But it is no surprise Perez would still show loyalty to Mahomes. The Chiefs star–who is the son of a former MLB pitcher and was once a highly-touted prospect on the diamond–officially joined the Royals ownership group last summer.

However, Brady has the bragging rights over Mahomes, at least for now. He defeated Mahomes and led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in the AFC Championship Game in 2018 before again getting the better of Mahomes in February.

It would not be a surprise if Phillips and Perez had the opportunity to run the bet back next February. The Bucs are returning all 22 starters from last year's Super Bowl squad, while the Chiefs are a perennial contender with Mahomes under center.
