The sports card industry has gone bonkers recently. Just this week, a 2018 Panini National Treasures Luka Doncic Logoman Auto One of One card became the most expensive basketball card by fetching $4.6 million in a sale. Before that, there were recent auctions of Mickey Mantle’s PSA 9 1952 Topps Card and Michael Jordan’s PSA 7 1997 Upper Deck Patch Auto card, which were sold at $5.2 million and $1.44 million respectively. Of course, the card industry wouldn’t be complete without one of its greatest athletes – Tom Brady.

In a deal brokered by PWCC, his PSA 8 2000 Panini Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket auto became the most expensive football card by selling for $1.32 million.

James Park, the buyer of this grail, stated that this card is an important piece of sports history as it clearly cements Brady’s status as football’s Greatest Of All Time. He also expressed his excitement in becoming one of the chosen few to own a Brady rookie card.

Over a month ago, the record was previously held by a BGS 9 2017 Panini National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Rookie Patch Auto /5 card. Now, that record belongs to Brady, who coincidentally, defeated Mahomes during the last Super Bowl.

Most fans expect Tom Brady to continue contending for a couple more years. If he manages to win a Super Bowl or two during that time, his most expensive card will go beyond and reach new heights. When that happens, you can expect a new record to be set in the card market.
