Before we talk about Tom Holland’s current success as the web-slinging hero, among his other roles, let’s first dive into his humble beginnings.

Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1, 1996, in a town in South West London called Kingston Upon Thames. His mother, Nicola, was a photographer and his dad, Dominic, was a comedian and author. Tom has three brothers Harry, Paddy, and Sam.

Tom Holland attended a Catholic preparatory school located in Wimbledon called Donhead. He then joined Wimbledon College up until December 2012. As a young kid, Holland was bullied for being a dancer.

“There was times when I was bullied about dancing and stuff,” says Tom Holland in an interview with PEOPLE.com. “But you couldn’t hit me hard enough to stop me from doing it.”

After his time at Wimbledon College, Tom Holland attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. He also enrolled in a carpentry school in Cardiff, Wales, when he didn’t have many jobs as an actor and performer.

As for his early work, Tom Holland was discovered by a choreographer named Lynne Page — an associate to the choreographer of Billy Elliot and Billy Elliot the Musical Peter Darling — when he began dancing at a hip hop class at Nifty Feet Dance School and eventually danced with his school group at the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival.

After multiple auditions and a couple of years of training, Tom Holland made his West End debut on June 28, 2008, in Billy Elliot the Musical as Michael Caffrey, Billy’s best friend. He then performed in the titular role on September 8, 2008, where he received positive reviews.

“They saw potential in me and they started sending dance teachers to my house,” Holland said.

On March 8, 2010, Tom Holland and three other current Billy Elliots were invited to meet then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Billy Elliot the Musical. He was chosen to be the lead at the fifth-anniversary show on March 31, 2010.

In 2011, Holland was cast as the voice actor of Sho in the British Dub version of Studio Ghibli’s animated fantasy film Arriety.

The following year, he made his feature film debut in the disaster drama film titled “The Impossible”. He starred alongside veteran actors Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. The movie was a critical and commercial success as it earned $180.3 million worldwide.

On top of that, Tom Holland received tons of positive reviews for his performance which also earned him several awards such as the National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance and the London Film Critics Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year.

In 2013, Holland starred in the drama film titled “How I Live Now” with Saoirse Ronan. In the same year, he voiced the supporting role of Eddie in the 2013 drama film Locke starring Tom Hardy. He also made a brief appearance in Billy Elliot the Musical Live to celebrate his role as a “former Billy”.

In 2015, he appeared in a few episodes of BBC Two’s historical miniseries titled “Wolf Hall”. He was also cast alongside Chris Hemsworth and Cillian Murphy in the 2015 historical adventure-drama film titled “In the Heart of the Sea”.

On June 23, 2015, Tom Holland landed his biggest role yet as he was cast as the newest version of the web-slinging hero, Spider-Man, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

His first appearance as Spider-Man came in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War where he received numerous positive praises for his performance. The film grossed $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2016. Holland, on the other hand, won multiple awards for his performance such as Saturn Awards’ Best Performance by a Younger Actor and the Golden Schmoes Awards for Breakthrough Performance of the Year.

In 2017, Tom Holland won the BAFTA Rising Star Award at the 70th British Academy Film Awards, making him the second-youngest winner of the award at the age of 20 years old.

In the same year, Holland appeared with Zendaya on Lip Sync Battle where he famously performed a dance number on Rihanna’s song Umbrella.

His first solo Spider-Man film was released on July 7, 2017, titled “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. He co-starred alongside great actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, and Gwyneth Paltrow, among others.

The film grossed over $800 million worldwide and his performance received positive reviews. To top it all off, Holland received a listing in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest actor to play a title role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Tom Holland reprised his role as Spider-Man in back-to-back Avengers films, Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019. On July 2, 2019, his 2nd solo Spider-Man film, titled “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, released and he co-starred alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Tom Holland also starred alongside Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Marisa Tomei, and Zendaya. On top of that, he shared the screen with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as their previous iterations of Spider-Man.

The film was a success as it scored the second-best opening day of all time at the US box office with $121 million.

Tom Holland has been mum on if he will return as Spider-Man as his current contract expires with his latest film.

“Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life,” he says in an interview with GQ. But also: “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”

Fortunately, Sony producer Amy Pascal revealed that they are working on the next Spider-Man trilogy with Tom Holland and Marvel.

“We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.” Pascal said.

Tom Holland’s next movie is set to release in 2022. The film is an adaptation of the famous video game series titled “Uncharted”. He will be playing the lead role of Nathan Drake while his co-star, Mark Wahlberg, will portray the role of Sully. Veteran actor Antonio Banderas is also set to feature as the film’s main villain.

Holland is also set to play Fred Astaire in a biopic that is currently in development at Sony. On top of that, Holland expressed interest to be the next James Bond.

“I've got two roles coming up that I'm playing in the next few years that I'm really excited about, but I can't talk about them yet. But I mean, ultimately, as a young British lad who loves cinema, I'd love to be James Bond. So, you know, I'm just putting that out there. I look pretty good in a suit,” Tom Holland said.

Tom Holland has had an excellent career so far despite being only 25 years of age. It is without question that his net worth will skyrocket in a few years, especially considering that he is up for another contract as Spider-Man and he has all of the other projects in line for him.
