Is playing more video games part of your New Year's Resolutions? If it is, then here are January 2022's top new games.

Top 10 New Games of January 2022

1. Demon Gaze Extra
Release Date: January 6
Developed By: Cattle Call

Published By: Clouded Leopard Entertainment
Platforms: Switch, PS4

An enhanced version of a PS Vita dungeon-crawler sleeper hit, Demon Gaze Extra lets players create companions for the lead Oz who is in a quest to seal demons and find treasures in the dungeons of Mislid. This game is a sequel to the 2010 game Students of the Round, which came out on PSP, Xbox 360, and PC, which leads us to wonder why the remaster isn't on Xbox One and PC as well. Either way, pick this game up if you want to start the year with some light-hearted anime JRPG dungeon-crawler. There aren't a lot of surprises here, so you're guaranteed to get the vanilla JRPG dungeon-crawling experience.

2. Monster Hunter Rise
Release Date: January 12
Developed By: Capcom
Published By: Capcom

Monster Hunter Rise has been making fans happy since its release on the Nintendo Switch last year. This January, they can start making their PC fans happy, too. Monster Hunter Rise continues Capcom's best-selling series of monster hunting in parties of 4 (or 12 if you count palicos and the brand-new palamutes) with innovations such as the Wirebugs that make life a lot easier for monster hunting. An expansion is coming later this year so get this game early so you could start grinding already – you wouldn't want to get left behind by your friends when Sunbreak comes out.

3. Astroneer
Release Date: January 13
Developed By: System Era Softworks
Published By: System Era Softworks
Platforms: Switch

The long-overdue Nintendo Switch version of Astroneer is finally here. It'll be a disservice to call Astroneer pointless, but it's the kind of sandbox game where players don't really have any objectives to do or any real goal to strive for. Astroneer lets players do whatever they want terraforming planets to their will. If you ever wanted to do stuff like this in No Man's Sky, you can finally do it on your Switch. You can craft tools and vehicles to help you mold the world to your liking, and use the terrain tool to extract materials that you can use to build whatever you like. An indie darling that has won a lot of game awards, this is something that should at the very least be on your radar.

5. RPGolf Legends

Games like Mario Golf and Golf Story tell us that yes, you can add a campaign to your golf game and make it work. An action role-playing video game, RPGolf Legends is the game to play if you've already exhausted the two titles mentioned above. However, if you still haven't, you're better of trying them out first, just to be on the safe side, then coming back to RPGolf Legends if you're left wanting for more.

6. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction

Do you think Rainbow Six Siege is too sweaty? Want to take your agents on a stroll with lower stakes and less intelligent enemies? Then Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is your go-to game. If you and your friends have been experiencing a losing streak in Siege, take your Agents out on missions here to improve your performance. Really, Rainbow Six Extraction can give players a lot of tense moments and thrilling encounters. If you just can't get enough of Siege‘s agents and you'd like to have them fighting against aliens, then you gotta get this one. 7. Windjammers 2
Release Date: January 20
Developed By: DotEmu
Published By: DotEmu
Platforms: Switch, Stadia, PC, PS4, Xbox One

Does anyone remember Windjammers? Thought so. The original Windjammers came out all the way back in 1994 on the Neo Geo. We don't really expect a lot of you to have played the game, but if you have, then congratulations. Here's a game for you. Kidding aside, Windjammers was a criminally underrated gem that had the misfortune of being lost in history. Thanks to DotEmu, though, a wholly new generation of gamers have the chance to experience this frantic disc-throwing frisbee ice hockey hybrid game. If you're up for some ridiculous sports games, you can't get anything better than Windjammers 2.

8. Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avengers iX 2
Release Date: January 27
Developed By: Inti Creates
Published By: Inti Creates
Platforms: Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X

RECOMMENDED (Article Continues Below)

Mega Man 11 reinvigorated the Mega Man franchise, making it look like Capcom can continue developing games featuring the Blue Bomber. However, the same can't be said about Mega Man X DiVE, the latest in the Mega Man X subseries. That game did no favors for its name, especially since it was released exclusively on mobile. If you want to rectify this missed opportunity, then you might want to try out Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avengers iX 2. It might not say much, but it's definitely better than Mega Man X DiVE. Give it a try.

9. Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Release Date: January 28
Developed By: Game Freak
Published By: Nintendo / The Pokemon Company
Platforms: Switch

The only Switch exclusive coming out this month, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is Game Freak's latest attempt to evolve the Pokemon series. It will have dramatically different gameplay compared to other Pokemon games and will feature a setting set in Sinnoh's pre-history. If you still haven't recovered from your Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl hangover, then this is your chance to remedy that. Whether or not Pokemon Legends: Arceus succeeds in revolutionizing the Pokemon series, it won't matter. It'll sell like pancakes, just like how Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl did, in spite of the lukewarm reviews.

10. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
Release Date: January 28
Developed By: Naughty Dog
Published By: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Platforms: PS5

The only PS5 exclusive for this month, well, if you consider a remastered collection as a game of its own apart from its original versions. Also, it's just exclusive to the PS5 until it also releases on PC later this year. In any case, whether or not you've previously played the Uncharted series, this will be a great pickup. For oldies, this is a great way to experience the entire journey again. For newbies, then you're in for one of the best game series ever made in history. Some of the older titles might feel a little bit dated at first, but you can easily wiggle through that and enjoy the ride.

And that's our top 10 new games of January 2022. Check out the best games coming out for Q1 2022 here, so you can plan ahead on which games you'll be picking up.
