The Toronto Blue Jays went into the 2019 MLB Draft looking to find pitching talent and they were able to do just that in the first and second rounds of the draft. They took West Virginia right-hander Alek Manoah with their first-round selection and backed that pick up with IMG Academy's Kendall Williams in the second round at No. 52 overall.

Williams is a top-notch prospect that has big-time potential for the future. Standing in at 6-foot-6, Williams is an intimidating presence on the mound and has the game to back it up.

PerfectGame.org broke down his game and shared their thoughts on what he brings to the diamond for those who would like to read the scouting report on him.

For those who prefer hearing it from the player himself, Williams took the time to sit down with Evan Massey of ClutchPoints.com. He talked about a range of different topics and Blue Jays fans will love getting to know who their newest talent is in the organization.

First up, Williams opened up about the MLB Draft process and how he feels being a part of the Blue Jays' organization.

“It was an unbelievable experience and something that I will never forget. I won’t lie it was very nerve racking, but that was expected, so I just did my best to control the controllable and keep the mindset that whatever happens, happens. Being drafted by the Blue Jays was a huge blessing, not only because they gave me the opportunity to start my career, but also in my opinion this is one of the most well rounded organizations in the game and I couldn’t be happier with where I’m at.”

Williams went on to talk about what he brings to the mound and what fans can expect from him moving forward.

“The best way I could put it is that when I walk across those white lines, I turn into one of the most competitive people you will ever see, so I’m gonna do everything in my power to beat whoever it is standing in the box staring back at me. I feel like what makes me different is my mound presence because it is very professional yet 100% bulldog at the same time and everyone knows I’m going to come right at every hitter I face no matter who they are.”

That kind of confidence will take Williams far at the next level. He also shared what he feels are his biggest strengths and weaknesses at this point in his career.

“My biggest strengths are definitely my deep understanding of my individual craft, my mental strength, and my ability to make in-game adjustments. My biggest weakness is probably that I tend to be a  perfectionist and sometimes get caught up in focusing too much on every little detail instead of just keeping it simple and focusing on the task at hand.”

Williams grew up like many, being a big fan of Derek Jeter. He talked about his fanhood growing up and when he realized that he had the talent to play professional baseball.

“Throughout my whole childhood I was a die hard Jeter fan which ultimately made me a Yankees fan. This was mostly because of how much respect people had for not only him when he had millions of eyes on him on the field but the behind the scenes/off the field side of him which is just an unbelievable person in general. I’ve never seen anyone respect the game or his opponents as much as he did throughout his long and successful career. The light sort of clicked on my junior year when I started getting some attention from professional scouts and then it all just sort of blew up from that point forward.”

Fans love seeing comparisons for prospects and Williams has tried to model his game after one of Major League Baseball's most dominant pitchers.

“I like to model myself off of Syndergaard, mostly because he is a very dominant pitcher and his presence is always known but at the same time his pitch ability and pure stuff is off the charts.”

If you're a young player looking to play professional baseball in the future, Williams was happy to share some advice. It is advice that young athletes need to pay attention to and it can also be quality advice for all of us in life.

“Honestly, the biggest thing would be that you are a direct reflection of the people that you hang around the most, so ALWAYS think about what you do before you do it and ALWAYS stick around people who have the same vision as you.”

Outside of baseball, Williams is a down to earth guy that has interests outside of baseball, although his mind is always on the game he loves.

“I’m one of those people who is always thinking about baseball and trying to find new ways to take my game to the next level. On the flip side of that though, there has to be a healthy balance of off time so what little time I'm not spending focusing around baseball I’m hanging out with my friends and going to the beach or playing Fortnite.”

Even though he was just drafted, Williams has some early goals set for himself now that he is a part of the Blue Jays' organization.

“Well I’m a very routine oriented person which I believe directly correlates to my past success and will continue to push me towards my main goal which is get to the big leagues and stay there. As of right now the main focus is just to get bigger, stronger, more flexible, and pick the brains of every incredible resource I have around me day in and day out to continue to make strides every day.”

Finally, Williams closed out the interview giving a message and shoutout to the fans. He is ready to make the Blue Jays thankful that they decided to take him.

“I’d just like to say to every Blue Jays fan out there than I’m putting my head down and going to work and even though this is a long process and it might be a little while before they see me on the big stage that I will continue to do everything in my power to make them and the city proud. 6ix Soon.”

Williams may not be a household name just yet, but he is going to be in the near future. He has the talent, work ethic, and attitude to become a star and it will be fun to see him develop over the next few years.
