Following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham have hired legendary Italian manager Antonio Conte. With this move, the former Inter boss comes back to the Premier League where he previously won a title with Chelsea just a few years ago.

Spurs were interested in Conte's services last summer, but he explained why took the opportunity this time around instead of after he parted ways with Inter. Via Fabrizio Romano:

“Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching.

“But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task at Tottenham had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction.”

Conte led Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years last term, dethroning Juventus after they won nine consecutive Scudettos. His exciting style of football was an immediate hit at San Siro and there's clearly no doubt in Tottenham's mind that Conte is the right man for this job.

Spurs are currently struggling, sitting eighth in the table with a 5-0-5 record. A 3-0 defeat to Manchester United over the weekend was evidently the last straw for Espirito Santo, who was let go after a mere 17 games at the helm. Conte's winning mentality and gritty coaching methods are exactly what Tottenham needs right now. Hopefully, he can help unlock Harry Kane as well who has been dismal in the final third this term, scoring once in league action.

Conte's first test will be at Goodison Park this Sunday against Rafa Benitez's Everton.
