Despite averaging 29 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists last season, James Harden was not on any of the All-NBA teams. Harden's numbers were even better than his play in the 2014-2015 season, when he finished second in MVP voting and was on the All-NBA First Team, but Houston's struggles throughout the year and the Rockets star's defensive miscues became a constant point of ridicule and mockery.

His relationship with reality star Khole Kardashian also served as fodder for criticism as Harden was often photographed late night with her or simply out and about partying with his friends. This season though, the narrative surrounding Harden is much different.

Harden is now a legitimate MVP candidate and his averages of 29.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and a league-leading 11.2 assists per game has helped to resurrect his image around the league. Plus, thanks to Harden's sensational play, the Rockets are one of the NBA's best teams and will enter the postseason as the third seed in the West.

Harden is so refocused on basketball, that he isn't even going out and partying like he used to. For Harden, it is simply all about basketball. A mindset that has rapper Travis Scott admiringly complaining about.

From ESPN's Calvin Watkins:

“The greatest player of all time, the MVP, Most Valuable Player of the league,” Scott told ESPN. “He’s one of the more hardest working players I know in life. I’ve been trying to get him to go out, but all he wants to do is go out and play f—ing basketball all day. He’s amazing.”

Scott's lavish praise of Harden comes with the qualifier that he is friends with the Rockets star and is from Houston. So naturally, Scott thinks Harden is the MVP and “the greatest player of all time.” But even knowing that, given his track record, it is pretty amazing that Harden straight up refuses to party with Scott because he wants to concentrate on basketball. In years past, it wouldn't have been shocking to see TMZ photographs of Harden at a club with a well-known rapper like Scott, but clearly, times have changed for the Rockets star.

And it seems like it was definitely a change for the better. Harden is now without a doubt viewed as one of the best players in the league and he could very well end up winning the MVP award this season.
