Tua Tagovialoa is considered—by many—to be the second quarterback that will be taken in the 2020 NFL Draft, but Trent Dilfer thinks differently. With two weeks until the draft, Dilfer claims that Tagovailoa throws better than Aaron Rodgers and Dan Marino.

“If he would have never gotten hurt there would have been no discussion about who the best player in the draft is,” Dilfer says, via the Washington Post. “He throws the football better than anyone throws the football. He throws better than Aaron Rodgers and Dan Marino. Whoever gets him wins the draft because you are getting a Hall of Fame player.”

Prior to the 2019 season, Tagovailoa was expected to be the most coveted quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, after suffering a hip injury at Alabama in 2019, Tagovailoa raises some concerns ahead of his prospective NFL career.

Disregarding the injury woes, Tagovailoa is a talented quarterback that can make nearly every throw on the field. While he was recovering from his hip injury, Dilfer was one of the former quarterbacks that worked with the incoming rookie.

During their time together, Dilfer got a first-hand glimpse at how Tagovailoa carried himself off of the field. At the same time, the former NFL quarterback took a further look into Tagovailoa's time at Alabama.

As good as Tagovailoa was in college, it's premature to compare him to the likes of Rodgers and Marino. These are quarterbacks that currently reside in the Pro Football Hall of Fame—or in Rodgers' case, he will be sporting a gold jacket when it's all said and done.

Of course, Dilfer is just likely trying to help Tagovailoa receive more buzz from teams ahead of the draft. Still, only time will tell if Tagovailoa can live up to the expectations that Dilfer has placed on him.
