The upcoming horror game based in the PUBG universe The Callisto Protocol is getting a big lift. The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman will be working on the game through his company Skybound Entertainment.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN ROBERT KIRKMAN AND PUBG DEVELOPER

Robert Kirkman's company Skybound Entertainment is collaborating with PUBG developers KRAFTON Inc. and Striking Distance Studios to build up the horror atmosphere. “Striking Distance Studios has one goal with The Callisto Protocol – to make one of the most terrifying games of all time,” a press statement on Skybound Entertainment's website reads. To do this, the PUBG developers are tapping Skybound Entertainment to apply their skills to this new series. With regards to this, Skybound Entertainment seems excited about the prospect of getting their hands on a new horror franchise.

The press statement didn't say exactly what the partnership will be like. However, it did quote The Walking Dead's history as a transmedia series as a reason for the collaboration. This shows the ambitious scope that Striking Distance Studios has for the game.

Skybound Entertainment transformed The Walking Dead from its original comics form into a sprawling media empire. Within just several years, The Walking Dead became a TV series, spawned video game adaptations, and even tabletop RPG games.

The Callisto Protocol made its first appearance when it was announced in The Game Awards 2020. The involvement of former Dead Space executive producer Glen Schofield in the project hyped people up. Dead Space brought horror to a whole new level when it was first released in 2008. Because of this, fans are dubbing The Callisto Protocol as Dead Space's second coming. Apart from Schofield's involvement, The Callisto Protocol shares its setting with Dead Space. Set in one of Jupiter's moons in the year 2320, the game will bring players face to face with the scary vastness of outer space.
